Drivers are responsible for the safety and welfare of students while on the bus and must comply with the following:

Driver Qualifications

Must like working with children
-
Successfully complete CDL Class B for school bus training, testing and mentoring of 20 hours

Drivers are fingerprinted, and background checked

Annual release of Abstract Driving Record

Annual Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug and Alcohol Query for pre-employment and annually
-
Certified in First Aid, CPR, and Stop the Bleed
-
Attend annual In-service training and mandatory driver safety training/meetings throughout the year
-
Have a Medical Examination Certificate renewed every 2 years or as needed

Able to drive with multiple distractions

Teach students to be safe on the bus

In accordance with Chapter 392-144 WAC all drivers must:
-
Physically able to maneuver and control a school bus under all driving conditions
-
Physically able to use all controls and equipment found on state-minimum specified school buses
-
Physically able to perform daily routine school bus vehicle safety inspections.

Has sufficient strength and agility to move about in a school bus as required to provide assistance to students in evacuating the bus
-
Be able to move from a seated position in a sixty-five-passenger school bus or the largest school bus the driver will be operating, to the emergency door, open the emergency door, and exit the bus through the emergency door, all within twenty-five seconds.​​
